Performer, conductor and composer, Jean R. Perrault is Director of Orchestras and professor of violin/viola at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). Rudy coaches chamber music, conducts both the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, teaches violin and viola, string techniques and the fundamentals of conducting.

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, he earned his Master's degree in performance from Temple University, under the tutelage of Helen Kwalwasser. He moved to the New York area and became assistant conductor of the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble while maintaining his post as Principal Guest Conductor of the Holy Trinity Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, Rudy has conducted numerous ensembles, most recently the Sinfonietta de Paris, the Karelia State Conservatory Orchestra (Russia), the Conservatoire de Paris région Boulogne-Billancourt (Paris, France), members of the Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory of Palermo (Sicily, Italy) and the Hacettepe Conservatory Symphony Orchestra (Ankara, Turkey). He is a frequent panelist on national and international, instrumental and conducting competitions, and has participated in many prestigious music festivals including the International Music Camp, Aspen, Tanglewood, Chautauqua. Rudy maintains an active schedule performing with many different organizations including the U3 Piano Trio, the Duluth-Superior Symphony in Duluth, the New York Virtuosi, the New York Pops, the Vermont Mozart Festival Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Virtuosi, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Philly Pops and the Broadway show "Beauty and the Beast". The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Holy Trinity Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the New York City Housing Authority Orchestra have performed his compositions.

The past several years he has been editing and orchestrating the piano works of Haitian Classical Composers. His most recent composition, "Exodus", has been recorded by the Borromeo String Quartet and can be heard on their Living Archives label. He is now working on a duo for violin and cello (Dialogues for Violin and Cello), a second String Quartet and a ballet (Cérémonie Vodou). His latest radio interview can be heard on the MN Artists website. Rudy makes his home in Duluth, Minnesota, with his wife Elizabeth and his two children Ella and Alexandre (a.k.a. Popo).

HALO is hosting its Fourth Annual Convention, "Nurturing Our Youth for the Future", at Barry University located 11300 NE 2nd AVE, Miami Shores, FL 33161 in the D. Inez Andreas Hall from Friday, January 23rd through Sunday, January 25th, 2009. As in years past, the first day of the convention, Friday, January 23rd, 2009, will be dedicated to students. We expect to serve as host to middle, elementary, and high school students from both Dade and Broward counties. On that day students will be treated to various talks by role models and motivational speakers. There will be opportunities for free gifts and prizes as well. The winners of our HALO Essay Competition will showcase a PowerPoint presentation based on their essay. HALO will provide lunch for the students.

On Saturday, January 24th and Sunday, January 25th, 2009, there will be a wealth of presentations and discussions on several topics including art, educational guidance, healthcare education, legal information, engineering and technology, financial empowerment, and political empowerment. This will be a great opportunity to connect with various professionals and college students for potential mentorship.

Businesses, schools, and organizations that cater to the community will be showcasing in our Exhibit Hall with plenty of time for networking and socializing during breakout sessions. The South Florida Workforce mobile job unit will be on hand during those two days as well. South Florida Workforce is responsible for initiating state and federally funded workforce development programs in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. They assist employers and job seekers with employment services, labor market information, and provide training for economically disadvantaged adults, youth, dislocated workers, individuals transitioning from welfare to work, and refugees. We encourage anyone in the community seeking employment to attend. If you are an employer looking to fill positions and would like to have a representative at the convention, please complete and submit a registration form.

Transportation to the convention for those without means to get to the convention is kindly being sponsored by Mr. Daniel Fils-Aimé of the Jitney Bus Service Co. During the convention period, anyone who mentions the word convention will be able to board any jitney bus between NE 163rd Street and NE 54th Street. The drop off site will be on NE 2nd AVE at the main entrance to the school. Attendants should walk towards the west side of the campus near North Miami AVE to reach convention grounds.

Opportunities are available for high school students to earn community service hours by volunteering during HALO's Fourth Annual Convention.
